Peter Jackson Fights Napoleon With Dragons

Sorry folks, it's looking less and less likely that Peter Jackson will be involved in The Hobbit. Not only is the movie at MGM, a studio PJ has no relationship, but he's also pretty busy. In fact, the Lord of the Rings director has just lined up another project.
Coming Soon says Peter Jackson has optioned the fantasy series "Temeraire" to turn into a movie. Whether he'll actually direct it, or just produce it the way he seems to be with everything else he's involved in remains unknown. Also unknown is whether he plans to make this a series of movies or just a single film. In book form the story takes place over three different novels, titled "His Majesty's Dragon", "Throne of Jade", and "Black Powder War".
The good news is that if he does direct this, it could be really cool. The books are basically a historical retelling of the Napoleonic wars, except in an alternate reality where the combatants have an airforce composed of dragons. Jackson seems to have the right idea about it. " I can't wait to see Napoleonic battles fought with a squadron of dragons. That's what I go to the movies for," he says. Me too PJ. Me too.
