I think it's a scam ...

Son is, naturally, trying to find girls online. He uses myspace. He was contacted by a girl with totally gorgeous pictures of herself, who said that her father was stationed in some country, he didn't catch where but thought it was Guatemala, and had been killed in an automobile accident in which she was herself hurt. Her description of herself, her dreams, and what she wants in a man were so compatible with what Son wants, that he was emotionally invested in a matter of days.

He told her to come. He wants to meet her. If she is everything she seems to be, and she wants to, they will get married.

Then she said she can't leave until the doctor bill is paid. That the US Embassy bought her a plane ticket, but that she can't leave the hospital without paying the $500 she owes.

Oh. Right.

Oh, and did I mention that she has owned two successful businesses? She's lost them both now.

Skeptical Son, who after all has no money, asked her to email a bill. It appears to have a legitimate hospital letterhead. In Nigeria. And it's dated 5/02/09. Yeah. Uh huh.

Oh, and where it says amount owed? It has $500.00 even. Except the 0.00 is typed and the $50 is written in by hand.

He wants to believe her. He doesn't; he just wants to. I said tell her to send you a picture of her in that hospital. With patients and all.
